Robert Mitchum in The Night of the Hunter

I got a very nice email last week from Julien Gagnier, president of the Next Projection Film Society. He complimented me on my article about Geoff Pevere, and wanted me to let my Toronto-area readers know about a free screening this Wednesday night being held at Innis Town Hall (2 Sussex Avenue). Geoff Pevere, former film critic and now book critic for the Toronto Star, will be introducing the only film that actor Charles Laughton ever directed. The Night of the Hunter (1955) stars Robert Mitchum as a sinister preacher who marries a widow (Shelley Winters) whose now-executed husband has hidden $10,000 in stolen money. I’ve never seen the film but it’s been on my wish list for a long time. I’m still not sure if I’ll be able to make it, but that shouldn’t stop you!
